AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi ‘Wish You Were Here’ Helmet

AGV Corsa Valentino Rossi ‘Wish You Were Here’ Helmet

This is the Valentino Rossi ‘Wish’ or ‘Wish You Were Here’ helmet design that he wore for the Misano MotoGP in 2013.

The meaning behind the design is simple – Valentino Rossi was expressing his feelings for his friend Marco Simoncelli who died at Sepang in 2011. The Misano race track was subsequently named after Marco Simoncelli, who was a local rider from just up the road in Cattolica, so it was a natural track to pay tribute to Simoncelli at.

The design is very unusual in that it takes artwork from the Pink Floyd album ‘Wish You Were Here’ as the inspiration. The top of the helmet features the robot arms from the album, and the rear of the helmet features the now famous photo of two men shaking hands, one of whom is on fire.

The sides of the helmet feature Valentino’s race number and the back has a small Sun and Moon icon.

This is a really eye-catching helmet design, and it is now being made available by AGV in Limited Edition numbers in their Corsa helmet range.

Product description of the AGV Corsa ‘Wish’ helmet:

The Corsa model combines the performance of the Pista GP with the characteristics needed for use on the road.

The Corsa has a carbon-fibre/glass-fibre/aramid fibre ssl (super super Light) shell which was designed using fem techniques and Features EPS internal ducts to create a small, light helmet Which is both comfortable and extremely safe. The result is a helmet that is significantly superior to the limits set by ECE Standards and that weighs just 1350g* (+/- 50 g) in MS size (the weight refers to the ECE 2205 version) Unlike the Pista GP, the Corsa comes with a system for opening And closing the air vents which makes it a less extreme, more versatile helmet. The entire ventilation system was designed Using computational fluid dynamics studies and wind tunnel tests.

This helmet is highly efficient at removing heat and moisture from the rider’s head. Thanks to its large rear spoiler, the Corsa boasts unparalleled performance as in terms of aerodynamic penetration and high speed stability. Overall, the visor area is 9% bigger meaning a 15° improvement in vision which obviously enhances the active safety factor.

The fit of the Corsa was developed using the new “human Engineering” process with which design starts from the surfaces in contact with the wearer’s head. The padding inside the helmet starts with a concave 3D structure that is pre-shaped to match the contours of the rider’s head and any surfaces in contact with the head are stitch-free.

The Lycra® and Shalimar® sanitised internal components are fully adjustable due to the fact that the position and depth of the crown pad can be modified as can the thickness of the cheek pads. The combination of these solutions, which are covered by Three separate patents, make the Corsa fit different shapes of skull as never before.

Extreme standards helmets is the name of the Revolutionary new range of AGV helmets which Includes the Corsa. It is based on the “human engineering” concept and applies to a new design process which starts from the components that are in direct contact with the head and gradually progresses to the outer shell. As a result, the structural shapes imitate the area of contact thus providing greater safety and smaller dimensions

Helmet features:

Valentino Rossi ‘Wish You Were Here’ (Pink Floyd) helmet replica

AGV have announced the release of another one of Valentino Rossi’s special helmet designs for the Misano round of MotoGP. Find out where to buy it at the bottom of the page.

Valentino Rossi always shows up at his two home Italian GPs with a special helmet design for the rabid fans, but in 2013 at Misano he chose a more personal and subdued design than previous years.

The helmet used inspiration from Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ album as a tribute to Marco Simoncelli – the 2013 Misano GP was the first time that Rossi had raced there since Marco Simoncelli’s death. Aside from the title ‘Wish you Were Here’, the lyrics of the Pink Floyd track are also especially pertinent and lend themselves well to Rossi’s and Simoncelli’s relationship and their careers as racers:

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

The design featured two robotic/mechanical hands clasped together with the four elements of fire, water, earth, and wind (recurring motifs on Rossi’s helmets) in he background.

The rear of the helmet features the now iconographic image from the Pink Floyd album of two men shaking hands, with one of the men in flames.
