AGV K3 Valentino Rossi Icon helmet (Mugello 2002)

This is another wonderful old-school Valentino Rossi helmet design that AGV have brought back to life and made available in the affordable K3 range.

This is the Valentino Rossi Icon helmet, a design that he wore for the 2002 Mugello GP as a tribute to his father and all things Italian.

As always, the helmet was designed by Aldo Drudi and it was primarily based on Graziano Rossi’s (Vale’s father) helmet when he was racing – it had a white base with red and green stripes. Valentino added a few extra touched to his version of his father’s design and added a number of icons around the base of the helmet that featured a symbol of the things that Valentino held dear or things that were important aspects of Italian life – they included pizza, sun, the sea, etc…

Rossi’s race number ’46’ appears at the top sides of the helmet and the rear has a cartoon depicting Valentino’s dog and cat.

This design is a firm fan favorite, so it is great to see it being made available again as a replica from AGV.

Official Description of the AGV K3 Valentino Rossi Icon helmet:

The K-3 is one of the classical top selling helmets by AGV. Its design derives from the top of the range GP-Tech helmets, bringing most of the latest advanced features on this reasonably priced product. The race helmet-inspired-line maximizes the airflow minimizing noise levels, while the back spoiler assures stability at high speeds. The ventilation system features three frontal intakes, and six back and side extractors, while a chin wind protector avoid turbulence inside the helmet.

The K3 range was released as AGV’s entry level helmet which has been designed for street and sports riding. It is a helmet that looks like a race helmet, and can be used on track days, or simply for day to day riding.

The K3 range takes a lot of features from the premium GP-Tech and AGV Pista ranges, and the thermoplastic resin shell, and the neutral oval head shape comes from the research and development work that went into created the GP-Tech and Pista. The aerodynamic shape is also influenced by AGV’s race research and testing – so this is helmet that is very at home on the track and feels very comfortable at high-speeds, cutting through the air.

Ventilation on the K3 is via the chin, with 4 exit points at the rear to keep the air flowing through while you ride.

The visor is anti-scratch and anti-fog enabled, and the internal cheek pads are Dry-Lex antibacterial antimicrobial that are easy to remove, but feel solid and secure when in place.
