It’s here! AGV have made the Valentino Rossi 2016 Winter Test Snowman helmet available as a limited edition in their premium AGV Pista GP range

Valentino Rossi often uses the pre-season MotoGP tests to reveal a new helmet design – and the designs are usually tongue in cheek or laced with humor. In 2015 Rossi had a helmet that was designed to look like a woolly hat which was intended as a joke about having MotoGP winter tests at Sepang in Malaysia which is pretty much always hot and humid….far removed from anyone’s definition of ‘winter’.

In 2016 Rossi did the same again and he showed up at Sepang with a new helmet design that featured a snowman in a yellow Yamaha hat and scarf. Rossi then wore the same design at the following testing session in Qatar leadng up to the opening race of the 216 season.

The snowman design was an instant hit, so it is no surprise that AGV are making it available as a limited edition.

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Snowman helmet:
The AGV Pista GP is the premium race helmet made by AGV. It is a full carbon fibre helmet that has been specifically designed for racing and is currently used by MotoGP riders like Valentino Rossi, Stefan Bradl, Jack Miller, Andrea Iannone and more. This helmet is the result of the AGV Extreme Standards Helmets project; this has made it one of the most innovative helmets seen on the market for many years.

It was designed, developed and tested by AGV and Valentino Rossi himself with one single aim; to create a helmet that offers the ultimate protection for racing. Using Finite Elements Analysis (FEM) enabled developers to reach previously unseen standards in terms of protection, comfort and ergonomics. The new integrated Ventilation system (IVS) provides an improved airflow of over 193% compared to its predecessor the GP-Tech. The addition of the rear spoiler and a smaller frontal section has maximised high speed aerodynamic performance. The helmets visor has a front micro-lock system that reduces the risk of opening in the event of a crash, it has a 15 degree larger peripheral vision for optimised vision whilst in the tucked position, and the visor mechanism is 71% smaller than its predecessor.

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi SoleLuna helmet

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Soleluna helmet

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Soleluna helmet

This is probably one of the most complete Valentino Rossi replica helmets that you can buy. What do we mean by that? Well, for one it is in AGV Pista GP range, which is the model that Valentino currently races with, and secondly, the graphics are the latest SoleLuna design which are the same that Rossi has recently been using as his primary helmet design. This helmet was also produced complete with Monster Energy logos, which is pretty rare on replica race helmets.

The Sole Luna design has been Valentino’s primary helmet design for the last couple of MotoGP seasons, and it utilizes Valentino’s Sun and Moon logos to glorious and colourful effect. Designed by Aldo Drudi, the Sun is placed at the front of the helmet with the rays flowing towards the rear of the helmet where they intersect with a blue Moon.

The chin features the Monster Energy logo, and the sides of the helmet also have the green Monster Energy claws, positioned next to Rossi’s race number 46 (if you get the Limited Edition version, if not you can always add your own Monster Energy stickers/transfers in the required positions as they are cheap to pick up online.).

This is a beautiful looking helmet.

Valentino Rossi 2015

This is a no holds barred race helmet and is optimised for speeds over 200mph – it is the same helmet that Valentino Rossi wears
Unique shape making it aerodynamic and the spoiler minimises the lift at high speed making the helmet very stable at high speeds.

Official Description of the AGV Pista Soleluna helmet:

The Pista GP is the revolutionary new top of the range model. Developed in collaboration with Valentino Rossi and other riders from the World Championship Series, the Pista GP sets new standards in terms of protection and ergonomics and is the benchmark for professional race helmets. The carbon fibre shell and the EPS internal components were optimised using FEM techniques (Finite Elements Analysis) to obtain an extremely high performance helmet in terms of size, light weight and protection. The result is a helmet that is significantly superior than the limits set by ECE standards and that weighs just 1275 g (refers to MS size in the ECE 2205 version).

Watch the video of how the AGV Pista GP helmet was developed with Valentino Rossi:

The entire ventilation system was designed using computational fluid dynamic modelling and wind tunnel tests. This helmet is highly efficient at removing heat and moisture from the rider’s head. Thanks to its large rear spoiler, the Pista GP boasts first class performance in terms of aerodynamic penetration and high speed stability. Overall, the visor aperture is 9% bigger meaning a 15° improvement in vision which obviously enhances the active safety factor.

Valentino Rossi

The fit of the Pista GP was developed using “Human Engineering” whereby the design starts from the surfaces in contact with the wearer’s head. The inside of the helmet starts with a concave 3D structure that is pre-shaped to match the contours of the rider’s head and any surfaces in contact with the head are stitch-free. The Lycra® and Shalimar® sanitized internal components are fully adjustable due to the fact that the position and depth of the crown pad can be modified as can the thickness of the cheek pads. The combination of these solutions, which are covered by three separate patents, make the Pista GP fit the different cranial shapes as never before.

Features:

  • Limited edition monster version
  • Shell: made entirely of Carbon composite fibre
  • Number of shells: 4 shell sizes
  • Ventilation System: IVS (Integrated Ventilation System) with channels hollowed directly in the shell
  • Inside padding: Fully removable and washable. Available in summer and winter versions.

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Project 46 2.0 Helmet

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Project 46 2.0 Helmet

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Project 46 2.0 Helmet

This is the updated, new and improved version of the AGV Pista Project 46 helmet.

The original Pista GP Project 46 helmet was a big seller for AGV, and they have built on the original helmet with a new Matt finish, a shell made from full carbon, and a design that was created and explicitly designed and developed for racing.

The graphics and design remain unchanged, this helmet features the blueprint style design that was first seen being worn and tested by Valentino Rossi during his first Ducati test sessions in 2012.

The design is simple, striking, and looks like it has been dragged straight off a designers blueprints – it is black, with ‘Project 46’ printed in yellow down the side. The sides and top of the helmet have various measurements and markings detailing some of the improvements in the helmet design – example: ‘air flow +193%’. The new design is said to be the most aerodynamic yet from AGV, and the helmet also has the greatest field of vision of all their helmets. The helmet was created in conjunction with feedback from Valentino Rossi, in fact, in many ways the helmet was built for Valentino Rossi in a way that no other previous helmet has – AGV took biometric scans of Rossi’s head and face, to ensure an optimal fit. All MotoGP racers who use AGV helmets now have the same biometric scanning to ensure they have custom fits that are optimized for their heads.

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Project 46 2.0 Helmet

Remember, this is primarily designed as a race helmet and is optimized for track use, so expect to pay a premium price whereever you see this helmet. That said, it is as good as the AGV range gets, so you will be buying real quality.

”I consider the PistaGP helmet a tribute to Gino Amisano, an entrepreneur I admired for his ability to innovate, the records he achieved, and the competitive spirit with which he faced every challenge. The new helmet is part of the AGV Standards project, which, in line with the qualities established by Amisano, revolutionizes the way helmets are designed, setting new records for protection and ergonomics that are clearly evident,” said Lino Dainese.

“Great aerodynamics, it feels like I am not wearing a helmet. Excellent ventilation, it is really noticeable. Exaggerated visibility, like switching from the TV to the cinema.” said Valentino Rossi.

AGV Pista GP – Official Description:

The AGV STANDARDS project, established in 2009 with Valentino Rossi as its leading rider, is ready to get on the track with the first AGV PistaGP helmet. The Pista GP sets new performance standards with its wide field of vision, low weight and compact dimensions, extensive ventilation, exclusive ergonomic design and class-leading aerodynamics.

Development of the Pista GP began by taking measurements of riders’ heads with a digital scanner. These measurements were then used to design the helmet from the “inside out”. It is based on the “Human Engineering” concept and applies to a new design process which starts from the components that are in direct contact with the head and gradually progresses to the outer shell. As a result, the structural shapes imitate the area of contact thus providing greater safety and smaller dimensions. AGV EXTREME STANDARDS HELMETS use FEM (Finite Elements Analysis) to set new standards in safety, comfort and ergonomics. In addition to new levels of safety, the AGV Pista GP sets new standards in environmental protection with the raw materials and new technologies used in production having a focus on low environmental impact.

Features:

  • The residual impact force transmitted to the head is reduced by 36% compared to the limit established by ECE regulations.
  • The HIC index is 48% below the limit established by ECE regulations.
  • The basic visor movement area has been reduced by 71% compared to the GP-Tech helmet. This allows use of the space saved to increase the thickness of the absorption material, benefiting safety.
  • The visor is Class 1 optical standard approved for excellent vision.
  • The field of vision is 15° wider and the overall visor window area has increased by 9% compared to the previous helmet, without compromising its level of protection.
  • The Z-Lift index has been reduced by 44% after wind tunnel tests.
  • The air intakes have almost tripled in size, whereas the entire ventilation system of the PistaGP helmet removes heat and moisture very efficiently. The padding has a 3D concave structure, which is preshaped according to the morphological characteristics of the head, while the surfaces in direct contact with the head are free from stitching for guaranteed comfort.
  • Thanks to its “from the inside out” design, the structural components of the helmet are designed to provide the required performance while minimizing size and weight.
  • The frontal cross section has been reduced by 3% and the lateral cross section by 6% compared with the GP-Tech helmet.
  • The fit of the PistaGP helmet, covered by three patents, provides an extraordinary high level of comfort and adaptability to different shapes, unknown up to now.

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Hand Print helmet (Misano 2014)

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Hand Print helmet (Misano 2014)

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi Hand Print helmet (Misano 2014)

This is the AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi replica helmet of the design that he raced with at the 2014 Misano MotoGP.

This helmet is known as the ‘Give us a hand’ design, or it is sometimes simply referred to as the ‘hand-print’ design.

Designed by Aldo Drudi, the helmet features hand-prints of many of the important people in Valentino’s life, including his friends, his mechanics, and even paw prints from his bulldogs and cat. There are also lipstick kiss marks from his mother and his girlfriend. Aldo Drudi also leaves his mark on this helmet design with a single fingerprint at the top of the right side of the helmet.

The concept behind this design has its roots in an Italian commercial – there is text around the chin of the helmet that reads “Misano ci dà una mano”, which is from an advert and means ‘Misano helps you’, a tagline from the advert that went on to become a well known phrase.

This is a very striking and colourful helmet, and it is now available as a race replica in the premium AGV Pista GP range.

AGV Pista GP Valentino Rossi ‘Project 46’ helmet

Valentino Rossi Pista GP Helmet

Valentino Rossi Pista GP Helmet

Now this is a bad-ass looking Valentino Rossi replica. This is the AGV Pista GP ‘Project 46’ helmet and it is the same lid that Rossi first wore during the first testing session on the Ducati in 2012.

It was nicknamed ‘Project 46’ as the helmet didn’t officially have a name as it was a brand new premium model that AGV were developing as the replacement for the GP-Tech model. It has since gone on to become the default race helmet model for many professional racers who ride with AGV helmets, including Valentino Rossi.

This helmet was a bit of a departure from the usual helmet designs that Valentino sometimes has created for MotoGP testing sessions – for example, there are no Sun and Moon motifs that are usually associated with Valentino Rossi helmet designs. In fact the only real indication that this is a Valentino Rossi helmet is the yellow 46 on either side of the chin.

Official launch video of the AGV Pista GP:

The helmet design has a real prototype feel to it and it is labelled with various markings and notes that detail some of the features and the improvements that the Pista GP has over other models, for example ‘air flow +193%‘ is written just above the visor.
