Valentino Rossi’s primary helmet design for the 2006 MotoGP season was called the ‘Gothic’ design. It was a dark and aggressive looking design by Aldo Drudi that took the common Sun and Moon motifs used by Rossi and turned them into a dark and hard looking design.
The design was created by Aldo Drudi and it features a stark and blocky Sun on the right ride of the helmet, with a sharp crescent Moon on the left side. The rear of the helmet features the initials ‘VR’ in a Gothic typeface. The chin is yellow and features Rossi’s number 46. A simple and effective design.
The Valentino Rossi Gothic helmets came in 3 main colour variations – White, Yellow, and Black.
This black version of the Gothic has the same design as all other Rossi Gothic helmets, except it features a white sun and black moon on a black background.
This version was used on a regular basis during the season, and the Gothic Black was often Valentino’s helmet design of choice for practice or qualifying sessions, and he would then switch back to the Gothic Yellow for race day.
