Rossi came to race in a swirling psychedelic design for the Mugello GP in his 250cc championship winning year. Valentino went on to win the race with Ralf Waldmann coming second, and Rossi’s future team mate Tohru Ukawa coming third. Rossi’s 1999 Mugello victory marked his second victory of the season – his first win of the season came at Jerez.

Rossi’s bike graphics had “Valentipeace & Love” written on it and Rossi said the design was a tribute to the Peace and Love vibe. The cartoon figure on the rear of the helmet is based on an Italian cartoon character called ‘Paparinik’ – Rossi developed his own variation of the character called ‘Valentinik’ and for this helmet design he can be seen with flowers emerging from his gun.
