Valentino Rossi finished in 9th place in his first 125cc Grand Prix season, but in 1997 he managed to dominate the track taking 11 wins and eventually securing the 125cc World Championship Title. Rossi’s wins in 1997 came at Malaysia, Spain, Italy, France, Holland, Imola, Germany, Brazil, Great Britain, Catalunya, and Indonesia.
In 1997 Valentino Rossi mostly ran with the same helmet design that he raced with in 1996 for his debut 125cc season, the Aldo Drudi design Sun and Moon motif, also known as ‘Soleluna’. It would only really be in the years to come that Rossi would choose to vary his helmet designs and create custom designs for specific races.
Designed by Aldo Drudi, this design feature a Sun and a Moon on the opposing sides of the helmet, each with a cartoon face.
